Job Description

DETAILS:

We are excited to offer a postdoctoral research fellowship beginning in Summer or Fall 2026, supported by the HHS Foundation International Visiting Research Fellowship. This prestigious opportunity will provide an exceptional candidate with a background in cancer biology the chance to advance their research career in a highly collaborative, translational research environment. The fellowship offers outstanding training opportunities, access to cutting-edge technologies and patient-derived research resources, and strong mentorship to support high-impact publications and the development of an independent research trajectory. The fellowship is situated in the Department of Oncology at McMaster University. The incumbent will work within the Berg Lab Research Program at the Centre for Discovery in Cancer Research.

ABOUT THE BERG LAB RESEARCH PROGRAM AT THE CDCR

The Berg Lab investigates the biological determinants of treatment response in Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) to develop transformative therapeutic strategies to improve outcomes and prevent relapse. Our research focuses on how epigenetic regulation shapes leukemia cell differentiation, metabolism, and immune recognition, and how these processes can be therapeutically exploited to improve patient outcomes.

Our program integrates cutting-edge experimental systems and technologies, including longitudinally collected primary AML patient samples from our tissue bank, functional murine leukemia models, and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models. These platforms are combined with advanced multi-omic approaches—such as single-cell RNA sequencing and ATAC sequencing—as well as functional metabolic and metabolomic profiling to define novel therapeutic vulnerabilities.

By bridging mechanistic biology with translational research and clinical trials, the Berg Lab offers a unique environment for postdoctoral fellows interested in epigenetics, leukemia biology, and the development of next-generation targeted therapies.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Completion of a doctoral degree in a relevant field within the past five years
• Strong background in stem cell and/or cancer biology, particularly hematological malignancies.
• Experience in working with syngeneic or humanized mouse models, flow cytometry, and tissue culture is an asset.
• Expertise in molecular biology and genome editing techniques.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proven track record of scientific publications.
• Preference will be given to applicants with training and/or experience from relevant European institutions.

Qualifications

We are seeking one Postdoctoral Fellow from Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Research, Medicine, or a related discipline with experience in molecular biology/biochemistry techniques, cell signalling, and animal studies, as well as in data analysis, with demonstrated skill in manuscript preparation and seminar presentations.
