Teacher at Parkland Composite High School

Position: Teacher, Full-Time, Temporary: English Language Arts & Social Studies, Secondary (Grades 9-12)

Location: , Edson Alberta

Start Date: September 1, 2026 or upon mutually agreeable date until June 29, 2027 or the return of the incumbent, whichever occurs sooner.

Hours of Work: 1.0 FTE, Monday to Friday, 10 months per school calendar year as per the ATA Collective Agreement.

Parkland Composite High School is a vibrant public secondary school located in Edson, Alberta, operating under the jurisdiction of the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division. Serving approximately 550 students in grades 9 through 12, the school is dedicated to delivering an excellent, well-rounded education. Role And Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be a collaborative person with proficiency in the use of educational technology and have an understanding of assessment for learning. The responsibilities include:

Providing instruction to promote high quality student-centered learning. Designing and preparing lessons based on curriculum and following a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing students, including lectures, demonstrations and discussions. Facilitating inclusive educational practices to maximize educational opportunities for all students. Reviewing and evaluating each student's performance, knowledge and skills and meeting all reporting and assessment deadlines. Adhering to provincial legislation, board policy and division administrative procedures. Developing constructive relationships with parents. Modelling commitment to professional development. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal to support the effective operation of the school.

The preferred candidate will have experience in high school English Language Arts and Social Studies; however, assignment flexibility may be considered based on the candidate’s skills and qualifications.

Requirements

The successful candidate will:

Possess an Alberta Teaching Certificate or be eligible for one. Have experience in following the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS) and infusing literacy across the curriculum. Hold a Bachelor’s degree of Education.

The Division

Grande Yellowhead School Division (GYPSD) stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south of Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 17 schools, 5 Learning Connection Centres, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff. The Division is governed by seven elected Trustees.

GYPSD schools offer a broad range of JK-12 programs. Principals focus on strong instructional leadership using generative dialogue to support teacher growth and supervision.

The Division is recognized for its dedication to integrating strong literacy practices throughout the curriculum, promoting inclusive education, and implementing innovative technology programs.

Committed to ongoing professional development, the Division offers each teacher and principal the opportunity to apply for up to $2,500 annually to support their professional learning. Additionally, educators pursuing a Master’s, Doctorate, or Leadership Quality Standard Program may apply for an extra $2,000 per year to further support their educational advancement.

The Division also provides $725 per year for teachers to allocate within a Health and Wellness Spending Account.

Available Leaves

Personal leave of absence, 4 days per school year May accumulate up to 11 total personal leave days, see the Local ATA Collective Agreement for further details.
