Nurse
Luther College High School (LCHS) invites applications for a part-time nurse, with duties to commence August 19, 2026 to June 30, 2027. Reporting to the Vice Principal of Student Life, the School Nurse is an integral part of the community and is responsible for providing holistic healthcare services and support for all dormitory students, day students, and staff. Key services provided by the nurse include, but are not limited to:
- The main priority of the school nurse is care for dormitory students and the delivery of health services.
- Healthcare delivery, health counseling, health programming and policy development including: School Incidents, Documentation Standards, eHR Viewer Access, Nutrition and Wellness, Pandemic Plan, Infection Control and Prevention, Privacy and Security Procedures and Medication Administration.
- Healthcare administration, information management, health education, professional development, and community involvement.
Responsibilities
1) Delivery of Health Services
- Participates as a member of the Luther College multi-disciplinary team when providing health services to students.
- Protects and maintains student’s health by providing professional nursing services in accordance with RN Act (1988), CRNS Standards, Competencies, Guidelines and Documents.
- Compliant with LCHS policies and procedures as well as LAFOIP legislation.
- Administration of over-the-counter medication to dormitory students in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Refer dormitory students to Public Health for administration of routine vaccinations as needed and facilitates access to the influenza immunization for dormitory students and staff.
- Communicable disease surveillance and implementation of restrictions including isolation as required.
- Identify and assess student health needs, implement services, and evaluate plans of care, which impact on student health, learning, achievement, or safety.
- Collaborate with parents/guardians of students with high-risk health conditions that may lead to a potential medical emergency
- Act as a liaison between dorms, home, school, and community providers such as, but not limited to, Physician, Optometrist, Dentist, Orthodontist, Physiotherapist, Social Worker, Travel Medicine, Hospital, Public Health or Community Agency Counselor.
2) Healthcare Administration
- Work closely with dormitory staffing and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) committee.
- Provide up-to-date health-related content for Luther College High School website revisions.
- Restock nursing and first aid supplies.
- Conduct monthly automated external defibrillator checks and replace expiring components as needed.
- With the Vice Principal of Student Life, ensure that medical policies and procedures are up to date and in keeping with best practices.
3) Information Management
- Document health services provided, in accordance with CRNS standards and LCHS policies and procedures.
- Record high-risk student health information in My School Sask (MSS) to support faculty awareness and preparedness.
- Complete student incident reports and submit insurance claims as needed.
- Initiate and document health surveillance programs as needed, as well as record and report student health information in accordance with the Department of Public Health requirements.
- Prepare and manage the budget for the Health Office.
4) Health Education
- Foster a positive, student-centered, and inclusive environment that supports the diverse needs of all learners.
- Deliver health education opportunities for students and staff as needed.
- Support classroom instruction by providing relevant medical and health-related curriculum content as requested.
- Provide training to dormitory staff on anaphylaxis management, naloxone administration, medication administration, mental health protocols, and other relevant health topics as required.
5) Professional Development & Community Involvement
- Develop and actively pursue individualized professional growth plans, which may include in-service workshops, graduate courses, conferences, and collegial learning.
- Collaborate with community partners, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and local school boards to support the delivery of health education and services as needed.
Qualifications
- Current license as a registered nurse with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan or are eligible to obtain one by August 2026;
- Current CPR Level C (HCP) and Standard First Aid certification;
- A valid driver’s license would be considered an asset;
- Is able to support and enhance the mission, vision, and values of Luther College; and
- Is able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including vulnerable sector search, for the duration of employment.
Association
- This position interacts with students, parents, senior administrators, faculty and staff, health professionals and community organizations.
- This position works closely with the casual nurse on staff.
Working Conditions
- This is a part-time salaried position, typically totaling 20 hours per week, with flexible scheduling to accommodate health education activities and the evolving needs of students.
