Librarian (2 positions) for specialized government library client, north Toronto.
Marberg Job Number: 2848. Job Type: Temporary. Initial Term: July 27 2026 to October 30 2026, with possible extension. Existing Vacancy: Yes. Target Compensation: $30 per hour. Regular Work Hours: From 8 am to 4 pm not including 30 min unpaid lunch break and two 15 minute breaks, Monday to Friday (37.5 work hours per week). Work Location: 100% onsite at client's north Toronto facility, near TTC stop. Ergonomic Requirements: In addition to regular desk work, position may require light lifting, bending, crouching and overhead reaching, extended standing, walking across floors and between buildings, and other ergonomic activities associated with handling and shelving books, journals, and other hard copy library and archival materials, some of which may be old or dusty.
Responsibilities Summary: Librarian to provide information services to specialized library, supporting both residential and distance learning and strategic studies. Provide reference and research services to a specialized audience of graduate students focused on strategic studies. Develop and document instructional material and information guides including web-based tools for access and discovery of library products. Deliver instructional workshops including individual and group information and AI literacy sessions. Manage access to electronic resources. Work with a team of librarians to redesign and develop library websites, SharePoint sites and LibGuides. Contribute to collection management projects. Additional librarian responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: Education: Master of Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited programme. Preferred Work Experience: Introductory level; minimum 6 months of hands-on work experience within the last 2 years. Preferred Sector Experience: Experience from a college, university or specialized library.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements: Proficiency with SharePoint, LibGuides, or other experience developing library websites. Proficiency with standard MSOffice software applications. Familiarity with OpenAthens to authenticate access to electronic resources is an asset. Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal. Additional professional-level proficiency in French is an asset (will be tested if applicable).
Task -Based Qualifications and Additional Attributes: Reference and research experience in an academic library with a focus on creating online information products using web-based tools. Ability to instruct and market library resources using online and multi-media products. Demonstrated experience developing library websites or SharePoint sites. Ability to design and deliver library workshops. Punctual, responsible, and reliable. Demonstrated record of professional conduct and character. Focused and able to work effectively with minimal direction and supervision, to prioritize tasks effectively, and to manage volume targets and due dates. Pleasant and courteous. Demonstrated commitment to client service and professional representation of the organization. Proven ability to professionally handle confidential information and exercise good judgement in the interpretation and application of instructions and organization policy. Superior attention to detail, and organized, methodical approach to completion of tasks. Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Requirements: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request. Ability to work 100% onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies. Ability to declare personal Non-Conflict of Interest in execution of assignment responsibilities. Ability to complete a satisfactory Federal Government security check, including a Fingerprint Check, prior to assignment start. Please note that Marberg will reimburse for the cost of the security checks upon confirmation of assignment start and submission of approved expense receipts. Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start. Satisfactory Background Checks, Technical Skills Evaluations, and Employment References.
