City of DuncanPublic Works Heavy Equipment Operator (Six Months)The City of Duncan invites applications from candidates with proven skills, qualifications, and abilities for the position of Public Works Heavy Equipment Operator for a term of up to 6 months.Duncan is small, in a Big way. Just a few hundred meters off the Highway (about 60 kilometres north of Victoria) you?ll find 300 shops and services in a beautiful, walkable, compact downtown lined with over 40 world-renowned totem poles. Within minutes of downtown are 5 golf course, 15 wineries, lake and ocean waterfront, world-class trails, cultural amenities, and all forms of outdoor recreation. This compact City of 5,000 people aims to be one of the most livable cities in Canada, proudly serving as the economic and cultural heart of the Cowichan Valley. Located in the traditional territory of Cowichan Tribes, Duncan seeks to be welcoming, diverse, creative, environmentally sustainable, and resilient.The successful candidate will perform a broad range of duties within the Public Works Department, primarily in the routine operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.  Required Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities include: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (G.E.D.). Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 1 or 3 B.C. Driver's Licence with a satisfactory driver's abstract. Possession of air brakes endorsement. Ability to perform physical labouring duties. Ability to operate heavy equipment safely such as backhoe, loader, dump truck, and vactor truck. Ability to communicate well with co-workers and the public. Ability to follow direction, use sound judgment, and work in a safe, efficient manner. Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures. Willingness to undertake additional training related to the duties of the position.The ideal candidate is well-organized, customer service focused, and keen to deliver high quality service to our community.
