Reporting to the Director, Environment, Health, Safety & Security, the Environmental Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for anticipating, evaluating, and monitoring health & safety risks for their areas of responsibility. This role will also develop and implement plant-level strategies to control risks in the workplace, develop “best in class” safety standards, support claims management, ensure training is up to date and support Environmental & Sustainability Initiatives.
This is to fill an existing position in the company.
This is an 18-month contract.

What you will be doing:
- Provide balanced support to their area of responsibility (A. Brampton & Madill or B. Mississauga, Live Haul, Hatcheries & Catching Services or C. Other), in collaboration with site teams.
- Work collaboratively with the Health & Safety Manager of the other areas of responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with Maple Lodge Holding Corporation’s (MLHC) policies, standards, and legislated requirements.
- Develop and maintain orientation and job-specific training programs. Ensure timely delivery of all training as per the training matrix.
- Provide a highly visible presence in all departments and leadership to site teams.
- Prepare and present health & safety reports and statistical information to management.
- Develop and implement strategies that create ‘safety engagement’ amongst employees and the plant management team.
- Investigate injuries, incidents, and near misses and support efforts to identify root causes.
- Supports the implementation of Safety Excellence Program Initiatives.
- Facilitate Contractor Management support through Contractor Compliance and collaborate with operations to reduce risk on contractor related work.
- Collaborate with operations to resolve machine deficiencies identified through the completion of Pre-Start engineering reviews.
- Support Environmental and Sustainability Initiatives in collaboration with the Senior Manager Environment & Sustainability.
- People Management:
a. Provide leadership and direction to Health & Safety Specialists and Coordinator.
b. Collaborate with the EHSS team to develop and maintain continuous improvement initiatives.
c. Collaborate with operations to achieve health and safety goals.
- Policies, Processes & Procedures
a. Comply with company standards, policies, and procedures.
b. Develop and maintain procedures in consultation with MLHC Environmental Health and Safety, regulatory requirements and industry standards.
c. Collaborate with operations to develop and improve safe work procedures.
d. Support and maintain MLHC site emergency response programs for fires, spills, emergencies etc.
e. Ensure resources are in place to provide 1st Aid including maintenance of training programs.
f. Maintains respiratory programs to MLHC and CSA standards.
g. Ensure Health, Safety policies, procedures, forms, and work instructions are maintained within the Integrated Management System (IMS).
What you will bring:
- Minimum 5-10 years’ progressive Health and Safety experience in a similar unionized environment;
- Excellent working knowledge of OH&SA and WSIB; and application of legislative and industry safety standards;
- Strong business acumen with ability to plan and execute;
- People skills to build strong working relationships;
- Strong collaboration skills & team player;
- General Computer Skills (e.g., MS Office);
- Ability to learn custom software applications.
- University Degree or College Diploma in Health & Safety or other relevant experience;
- Safety Designation: CRSP, CHSC, CSP or equivalent
