Job Description

RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position Summary

The Research Institute of the MUHC (RI-MUHC) is looking for a highly motivated and skilled programmer/bioinformatician to contribute to the development of the bioinformatics platform. We aim to provide personalized bioinformatic services such as genomic data analyses and data management systems to our clients working in various fields such as clinical genomics, cancer and rare diseases. The post-holder will contribute to the advancement of research by analyzing and interpreting genomic data, providing technical, and scientific support for investigators of the RI-MUHC, and assist in training activities.

General Duties

Develop and maintain analytical pipelines for next-generation sequencing data analysis (WES, WGS, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, etc.). Develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for single-cell and spatial omics data analysis. Design and maintain web-based tools for genomic and clinical data integration and visualization. Assist with day-to-day platform operations, including data analysis and communication with service users. Provide technical support for user questions and problems. Develop training materials and documentation. Participate in article and grant writing.

Education / Experience

MSc. or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computer sciences or computational biology. At least two years of work experience in computer science. Strong programming skills in python, R, bash. Experience working in a Unix environment Experience in programming within a team using version control systems such as Git. Experience in single-cell and spatial transcriptomics data analysis Experience in web-based software development with javascript, HTML, CSS. Experience in designing relational databases. Experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing data is an asset. Experience in high-performance computing is an asset. Experience in Proteomics data analysis is an asset. Experience with frameworks such as Nextflow is an asset Experience in image analysis (MRI, CT, PET, etc.) is an asset

Required Skills

Strong communication skills in both French and English (spoken and written).

Additional information

Status : Temporary, Full-time, 35 hours/week.

Pay Scale: $50,960.00 $94,658.20. According to qualifications and experience.

Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Official title within the salary structure: Bioinformatician

Work Site: Glen site (1001 Boulevard Decarie).
