Department: Junior School

Reports to: Junior School Principal

Interfaces with: students, teachers, and the entire school community

Term of contract: 10 month contract, on days in which the students are at school

Start date: August 27, 2026

Salary range: $38-$42 per/hour

Position Rationale and Goal Under the management of the Principal, and in collaboration with the Learning Strategist, teachers and other support staff, the Instructional and Behavioural Aide will enhance and support the learning of two students, providing 50% support to each student. The Instructional and Behavioural Aide will work to support each student individually, as part of a small group or amongst the class as a whole. In collaboration with the homeroom teacher, Learning Strategist and Counselor, the Instructional and Behavioural Aide will provide academic and/or behavioural care for the individual student. In consultation with the homeroom teacher, the Instructional and Behavioural Aide will correspond with parents on a regular basis. The Instructional and Behavioural Aide will contribute to the school community through other duties as assigned. As a key member of the faculty, the Instructional and Behavioural Aide will contribute to the development and overall improvement of the School.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Education or related field

Training and/or experience in play-based learning

Training and/or experience to support the social and emotional learning of students with diverse learning profiles

Understanding of behaviour intervention strategies and self/co-regulation techniques

Training and/or experience in positive behaviour support frameworks

Training and/or specialized education for the deaf and hard of hearing

Knowledge with augmentative listening tools such as assistive listening devices and FM tools

Experience working with neurodiverse students

Strong communication skills in English, both spoken and written

Experience working with 4−10 year old children

Strong organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills, and

the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

Computer literate with experience in Google Workspace

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

Work in the classroom to support the student

Working in collaboration with all grade teachers, learning strategists & PYP Counsellor

Support the student in outdoor activities

Maintain consistent communication with parents and outside service providers

Ensure the student is actively engaged in their own learning

Empower the student to feel safe, responsible and take action

Support teachers in accommodating the curriculum

Refer to the IEP or student support plan when making accommodations

Management

Assist in organizing events specific to the grade/class/subject area

Provide meaningful and timely communication to faculty, staff and management

Assist in monitoring student attendance, behaviour and progress

Inform the appropriate ‘person of responsibility’ when issues or concerns arise

Create and prepare differentiated teaching resources as required/ and necessary, and in collaboration with the homeroom teacher

Professional Appraisal and Development

As instructed, engage in professional development in order to better understand the needs of the individual student and the classroom instructional program, if asked

Seek and act upon constructive feedback and advice

Involvement in the Wider School Community

Take an active role within the school community by making a conscious effort to interact with all staff and be aware of current school events and initiatives

Positively support school initiatives organized by staff, students or parents through active participation and promotion within classrooms

Promote school unity by attending staff social functions when possible

Attend special events such as Meet the Teacher Night and school concerts, goal setting, student-led conferences

Attend and actively participate in scheduled meetings

Participate in supervision duties

Maintain an active presence in common areas and during scheduled supervision duties

Take positive action to ensure the school is clean and well maintained, classrooms are neat and

attractive and displays in classrooms and general purpose areas reflect the pursuit of excellence.

At times teachers may be requested to take on additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
