About**the**Position:****

We are seeking a highly skilled mental health professional with strong clinical expertise and a collaborative, people-centred approach, passionate about supporting the well-being of children and youth. Reporting to the District Principal of Student Services, the Mental Health Clinician will play a vital role in delivering direct mental health supports, providing consultation, and building capacity within school communities. This position works closely with school teams, families, and community partners to support students with complex needs, contributes to district-wide mental health initiatives, and plays a key role in crisis response, prevention, and the implementation of trauma-informed practices aligned with the District's strategic vision. The position is a temporary one year contract, from September 1, 2026 – September 1, 2027.

CoreResponsibilities:

  • Support the District Critical Incident Response Team
  • Be a member of the District Violent Threat Risk Assessment team.
  • Support schools with Suicide Assessment training and process.
  • Build the capacity of school staff to support youth mental health and well-being.
  • Respond to referrals to the Mental Health Behaviour Team.
  • Attend meetings to coordinate and collaborate on student supports with District Student Services.
  • Share understanding of mental health and well-being to inform appropriate programming for students.
  • Support schools in implementing the Mental Health in Schools Strategy.
  • Build capacity for schools and school teams to support social emotional learning and mental well-being for students.
  • Attend School Based Team meetings as needed to provide feedback and advice on students requiring mental health supports.

SalaryRange: $75,221 to $116,190. Total rewards package includes competitive salary and professional development opportunities.

You are empathetic, skilled, and proactive, and value collaboration, responsiveness, and student-centred practice. You bring extensive experience in youth mental health, counselling, and interdisciplinary collaboration, with a strong ability to support complex student needs, build capacity within school teams, and foster positive, supportive relationships with students, families, and community partners.

Qualifications:****

  • Master's degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience supporting high-risk children and youth in counselling and mental health settings.
  • Proven ability to provide individual, family, and group counselling, including facilitating small groups and delivering mental health education to parents and caregivers.
  • Strong expertise in trauma-informed practice, including supporting children and youth with complex needs, trauma histories, disabilities, and diverse mental health needs.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, school staff, parents, caregivers, and community partners to plan and deliver coordinated support.
  • Experience liaising with and navigating resources across community agencies (e.g., MCFD, CYMH, Indigenous-serving organizations, and other mental health and social service providers).
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices, programs, and behavioural support strategies, including conducting behavioural screenings and Functional Behaviour Assessments.
  • Excellent communication, consultation, coaching, and leadership skills with a strong commitment to teamwork.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
