About the role
Senior Machine Learning Expert (AI Training)
About The Role
What if your deep expertise in machine learning could directly shape how the next generation of AI systems think, plan, and solve problems? We're looking for Senior Machine Learning Experts to author high-fidelity reasoning traces — structured, step-by-step records of how an AI should approach and solve complex real-world tasks.
This is more than annotation. You'll be capturing expert-level decision-making in a form that trains LLMs to reason more reliably, plan more effectively, and use tools more intelligently. Your work will directly influence how frontier AI models behave in production.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for senior ML professionals who want meaningful, intellectually stimulating work on their own schedule.
Organization: Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces that capture expert-level planning, tool use, and decision-making for sophisticated technical tasks Design and document step-by-step problem-solving strategies that help LLMs navigate intricate real-world scenarios Review and mentor structured traces to ensure optimal quality, logical clarity, and accurate tool-use documentation Develop data strategies that expose LLMs to nuanced, multi-step reasoning patterns Apply senior architectural insights to ensure model decision-making is reliable, grounded, and well-structured
Who You Are
Deep hands-on experience in Machine Learning, AI research, or a closely related technical field Proven ability to decompose complex problems into clear, logical, and well-documented steps Strong understanding of how LLMs reason, plan, and use tools — and where they go wrong Experience with LLM evaluation, fine-tuning, or training methodologies Naturally rigorous and detail-oriented — you think in systems and document your thinking clearly Self-directed and comfortable working independently in an async, remote environment
Nice to Have
Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or model evaluation pipelines Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level) demonstrating elite model performance intuition Background in AI safety, alignment research, or RLHF workflows Experience writing technical documentation or structured evaluation rubrics
Why Join Us
Work directly with teams building some of the world's most advanced AI models Fully remote and async — work when and where you do your best thinking Freelance autonomy with intellectually stimulating, high-impact work Contribute to AI that is more reliable, more capable, and more aligned with how experts actually think Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
