The Drop-In Leader plays a crucial role for the Town of East Gwillimbury by actively supervising and facilitating drop-in programs, responding to emergencies, and ensuring compliance with safety and facility guidelines. This position emphasizes leadership, strong communication skills, and exceptional customer service, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants of all ages. The Drop-In Leader is responsible for engaging with participants, organizing activities, assisting with event setup and cleanup, and providing a positive experience for all attendees. Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator within the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Division, this role helps foster an enjoyable and safe recreational experience for the community.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and supervise activities for children aged 5-12yrs old during drop-in programming ensuring a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment.
• Coordinate and supervise activities for children and families during Drop-in times.
• Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies, Emergency Procedures, Recreation Procedures Staff Manual, and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.
• Performs first aid treatment for patrons and/or arranges for emergency professional medical assistance as required and completes required accident reports.
• Take drop in payments and reconcile drop in numbers.
• Effectively communicate with participants and their parents/guardians, addressing any questions, concerns, complaints, or suggestions about the program; pass on any relevant information to the Recreation Coordinator.
• Report any issues, concerns, or areas of development to the Recreation Coordinator.
• Set-up and take down of any equipment or supplies used, and ensure equipment is used in a proper and safe manner.
• Ensure the equipment room is safely organized and clean.
• Maintain a high level of customer service, engaging with participants, parents, and guardians to enhance their experience.
• Provide adaptations and modifications to planned activities and/or available equipment where appropriate.
• Complete administrative tasks as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications:
• Experience within Recreation and Leisure or a related field (Considered an Asset).
• Experience working with children, preferably in a recreational setting.
• Experience planning and implementing program plans (Considered an Asset).
• Strong customer service, oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to deal effectively and politely with staff, parents, program participants and the general public.
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certificate (WSIB Approved Organization).
• Vulnerable Sector Police Check required.
• HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (Considered an asset).
• Ability to work flexible shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.
