For The Inlet Current, a contract role with Story Monkey Productions Inc.
The opportunity Are you a high-energy "hunter" with a passion for local news and digital storytelling? We're looking for an entrepreneurial Advertising & Partnerships Manager to drive advertising revenue for the Inlet Current. An excellent opportunity for self-employed enterpreneurs, marketing professionals, and those interested in a full-time or part-time commission-based contract. This is a golden opportunity for someone who LOVES SALES.

And your sales do more than pay you. This role is with Story Monkey Productions Inc., which manages advertising and commercial partnerships for the Inlet Current.
Role Description The Advertising & Partnerships Manager is responsible for building and managing revenue-generating relationships that support the Foundation’s mission and the Inlet Current. On a day-to-day basis, this role identifies potential advertisers and partners, conducts outreach, prepares pitches and proposals, and negotiates agreements that align with editorial values and community interests. The manager oversees advertising campaigns and sponsorships from onboarding through post-campaign reporting, coordinating with editorial and operations teams to ensure placements are accurate, on-brand, and effective. The role includes tracking performance metrics, maintaining detailed account records, and regularly reviewing opportunities for new strategic partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, and community groups. This is a hybrid role based in Port Moody, BC, with a mix of in-person collaboration and some work-from-home flexibility.
What you'll sell Display advertising: high-visibility banner and display placements across our desktop and mobile platforms. Newsletter sponsorships: direct access to our subscribers' inboxes. Sponsored content: clearly labelled branded/sponsored content that lets local brands tell their story to our engaged audience, produced separately from, and never presented as, our independent newsroom journalism. Custom packages: tailored multi-channel campaigns for local businesses. Your responsibilities Prospecting: identify and reach out to local businesses, agencies, and brands that align with our readership. The pitch: confidently present the value of our audience and the impact of digital storytelling. Closing: manage the full sales cycle from first contact to signed contract. Relationship management: maintain long-term partnerships and high renewal rates. Coordinate with the Foundation's fundraising: commercial advertising (your work) is distinct from philanthropic support to the Foundation. Coordinate, so there’s no duplicate or conflicting asks to the same local businesses. Who you are A proven closer: 2+ years in sales (media, digital marketing, or local advertising a big plus). Experience in Partnerships and Strategic Partnerships, including identifying opportunities, building relationships, and negotiating mutually beneficial agreements. Account Management skills to manage advertiser and partner relationships, maintain contracts and records, and provide ongoing support. A communication pro: you can explain the value of sponsored content versus a display ad with ease. Familiarity with digital advertising tools, sponsorship models, and basic CRM or tracking systems is beneficial. Excellent Communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication, presentation abilities, and comfort interacting with diverse stakeholders. Self-managed: you thrive in a remote, autonomous environment and hit your numbers without a manager over your shoulder. There will be frequent contact with Story Monkey owners as well as collaboration with the Fundraising department of the Foundation for Local Journalism, so teamwork is key despite this being an autonomous role. Local knowledge is an asset: knowing Port Moody and the Tri-Cities community helps. Commitment to ethical advertising practices and support for community-focused, independent journalism. Background in media, marketing, sales, fundraising, or related fields; experience with local news or nonprofit organizations is an asset.
How we work The Inlet Current's journalism is independent and not for sale. You sell advertising and clearly-labelled sponsored content; you don't sell news coverage, favourable treatment, or protection from scrutiny, and advertisers have no influence over what our newsroom reports. That firewall is exactly what earns our audience's trust, and that trust is what makes our advertising worth buying. Sponsored content is always labelled as such and produced separately from editorial.
Compensation & benefits 100% commission: earn 20% on every closed deal. Residual income: earn commission on renewals for accounts you've brought in. Total flexibility: work remotely on your own schedule. Independent contractor: you're responsible for your own taxes/GST as applicable. Impact: play a key role in funding independent journalism in our community
