Your role

We are seeking a producer-host for the preparation and presentation of Téléjournal Ontario on Fridays, as well as National Hebdo on Saturdays and weekend short bulletins. You will also be responsible for assigning journalists on duty during the weekends.

Under the authority of the Senior News Manager, and in close collaboration with the production team, you will be responsible for finding relevant interview topics, writing and prioritizing the main elements of the bulletin, delivering the content, and interviewing newsmakers.

The host must plan, conceive, organize, and develop the production and realization of the show. He or she must demonstrate strong leadership, autonomy, creativity, rigor, high execution speed, and a unifying team spirit. The selected individual must be able to work under pressure and strive for excellence.

By adhering to the station's editorial guidelines, you must demonstrate sound editorial judgment, a heightened sense of organization, and in-depth knowledge of regional, national, and international issues, as you will need to support the team and reporters in the production of reports or interventions. You will therefore be required to coordinate the work of others.

We are looking for a candidate with great agility and versatility. The chosen individual will be aware of the predominant role of digital media in the media landscape. He or she will ensure that Téléjournal, in particular, aligns with the station's objectives and those of Radio-Canada regarding digital production. You may also be called upon to create content for digital platforms.

The selected person will be familiar with the Toronto area, Ontario, and French Ontario. The work must comply with Radio-Canada’s policies, as well as its journalistic standards and practices.

The selected person will be assigned a full-time compressed schedule over 4 days, from Thursday to Sunday. Days off may vary according to operational needs.

Key Responsabilities

Coordinate and supervise the work of staff members or guests contributing to the show. Select, adapt, or revise texts by others. Prepare a script and ensure the delivery of a news bulletin on TV or in a digital format. Develop content taking into account the priorities set forth by the assignment and deployment staff. Ensure the smooth flow of content between digital platforms, shows, and television. Conceive and develop show ideas and concepts. Evaluate all aspects of a production, including the performance of programming and production staff. Participate in public or community relations activities. Maintain expertise in areas related to the performance of their work. Participate in the selection of produced topics. Propose original topics for shows and the newsroom. Determine the order and importance of the various elements of a show. Find relevant guests to discuss current topics. Organize pre-recorded or live interviews and prepare visual elements to illustrate these interviews. Be able to pivot and find plan Bs in case of interview refusal. Develop research files, conduct pre-interviews, and create interview plans with specific angles and concise questions that allow for in-depth coverage of the topics attracting attention each day. Identify the elements that will serve as headlines for Téléjournal Ontario. Edit and mix sound or visual elements, or direct their editing and mixing. Proficiency in Mediacentral/iNews.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.
