Position: Communications Specialist III Location: North York ON (Hybrid) Pay Rate: $40-$45/hr. on T4 or $45- $50/hr. on INC Duration: 12+ Months (Possible Extension)

High-Level Role Summary Responsible for strategic planning, coordination, and execution of external corporate communications, advocacy, media relations, crisis communications, and brand management with a focus on the Local Distribution Company (LDC) operations in Ontario. This role includes leadership and development of two direct reports.

Key Responsibilities Support development and execution of communication strategies to address emerging issues, protect reputation, and manage risks. Research, write, edit, and distribute news releases, speeches, key messages, and media materials. Lead external communications, engagement, and advocacy plans to support critical business initiatives. Develop and deliver media relations strategies, including proactive outreach and responses to media inquiries. Act as a company spokesperson when required and prepare/coach senior leaders for media interviews. Participate as a member of the Crisis Communications Team (ICS trained Public Information Officer with on-call duties). Provide leadership, coaching, and strategic direction to a team of two Communication Advisors. Review external materials for brand consistency and reputation protection.

Required Qualifications Post-secondary education with 7–10 years of progressive experience in public affairs or external communications (media relations, issues management, advocacy, crisis comms). Strong understanding of the energy industry media landscape, regulatory, and public policy environment. Outstanding writing, presentation, and spokesperson skills. Experience working under pressure, managing ambiguity, and meeting tight deadlines. Demonstrated comfort using AI tools to enhance productivity.
