Course number and title: Professional Language Development Coordinator
Course description: Communication consultation and/or instruction is developed in collaboration with Communication Coordinators in each department (e.g., CIV, ECE, MSE, CHE, MIE).

Number of positions (est): One (1) position.
Estimated course enrolment: Undergraduate students across the Faculty from 2nd to 4th year.
Class schedule: Schedules vary between courses and have some flexibility in the planning of extra workshops.
Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027
Hours: This position functions as 2 HCE (up to a maximum of 460 hours).
Salary: CUPE minimum salary rates for a half course (HCE), inclusive of vacation pay, are: Sessional Lecturer 1 - $9,997.47; Sessional Lecturer 1 Long Term - $10,699.22; Sessional Lecturer 2 - $10,699.22; Sessional Lecturer 2 Long Term - $10,953.96; Sessional Lecturer 3 - $10,953.96 and Sessional Lecturer 3 Long Term - $11,212.15. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.
Minimum Qualifications: include at least a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics or Second Language Education with strong written and oral communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to content-based instruction to advanced multilingual post-secondary students, experience with curriculum development and language assessment, a demonstrated ability to teach communication and to work as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications: include a PhD in an appropriate discipline (as above) and familiarity with engineering communication practices.
Description of duties: Administration and coordination of Professional Language Development communication curricula covered in each Communication portfolio. This includes:
Ongoing monitoring and follow up with students identified as needing Professional Language support
Meeting with ECP Portfolio coordinators and course instructors to coordinate specific instructional support mechanisms specific to PLD needs to meet English Language Proficiency requirements
Design appropriate support activities and mechanisms for PLD students in 2nd to 4th year
Collection and analysis of data generated through assessment activities, and documentation of breadth and impact of activities
Provide mentorship and process orientation to new team members and support transition planning
Ongoing monitoring of assignments and collaboration with Communication Coordinators to design appropriate support activities
Design and delivery of training activities for development of CI capacity specific to language development in 2nd-4th year courses
Liaison with FASE and student organizations (e.g., ACE) to continue outreach initiatives and develop new programs
Must have the ability to adapt to different communication instruction activities and move online if required.
