Position Title: School of Physical & Health Education Research Intern
The research intern will assist in coordinating and operating research projects and community outreach activities conducted by Dr. Mark Bruner from the Groups for Youth Development (G4YD) and Dr. Brenda Bruner from the Northeastern Ontario Research Team for Health and Physical Activity (NORTH PA) Lab.
A key responsibility of the intern will be to support the current lab projects: More Than Sport - Youth (funded by Nipissing University Internal Research Grant), Move More Sit Less (funded by CIHR) and Incentivization in Youth Sport (funded by SSHRC). All projects focus on child and youth physical activity, sport and well-being and employ both qualitative and quantitative methods. The intern will be involved with the research process from data collection to dissemination. The intern may be involved with planning for future studies by conducting literature reviews, developing research questions, and completing ethics applications. A key role of the intern will be data collection. The intern will liaise with community partners to schedule periods of data collection, facilitate interviews with participants, and actively guide participants through the study surveys. Throughout data collection, the intern will be responsible for safely storing and effectively organizing the data. The intern will receive data analysis training in quantitative (SPSS) and qualitative (NVIVO) software to assist with data analysis. The intern will participate in research dissemination by assisting with developing infographics, workshops, presentations, and peer-reviewed journal manuscripts.

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate or graduate degree in Physical and Health Education, Kinesiology, Human Kinetics or Psychology. They must have successfully completed a basic introductory course in research methods and statistics and have a strong interest in sport/exercise/health psychology and/or health promotion. The duties of the intern will be scaled based on their degree (e.g., an intern with a graduate degree would have more autonomy in data analysis and manuscript writing).
