Role Description The Freelance Kinyarwanda Translator will provide accurate and culturally appropriate translation of documents and materials from Kinyarwanda to English and English to Kinyarwanda for clients in Canada. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing source documents, researching terminology, translating and adapting content, and performing self-review to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance with client and IRCC requirements. The translator will work closely with project managers and, when required, other language professionals to meet deadlines and follow established quality and confidentiality standards. This is a temporary, on-site role based in Canada, with assignments scheduled according to project needs and client demand. Qualifications Strong proficiency in Kinyarwanda and English, with demonstrated ability to translate accurately and fluently in both directions. Experience with written translation of general, personal, and business documents; familiarity with legal, medical, or technical texts is an asset. Attention to detail and strong skills in proofreading, editing, and quality assurance for translated content. Ability to conduct terminology and subject-matter research and apply appropriate vocabulary and style for different audiences. Understanding of cultural nuances relevant to Kinyarwanda-speaking communities and sensitivity to diverse client backgrounds. Previous experience working with translation agencies or in a freelance translation capacity is preferred. Familiarity with basic digital tools and file formats (e.g., word processors, PDFs) and willingness to follow agency workflow and guidelines. Post-secondary education in translation, linguistics, language studies, or a related field is an advantage; relevant training or certification is beneficial. Ability to work on-site in Canada, follow confidentiality requirements, and meet project timelines reliably.
