POSITION

Worksite: Skwah First Nation Adult Education Centre – Fraser Valley Continuing Education School

Contract Type**:** Temporary, Full-Time (Secondment)

Assignment Area(s): Adult Education Generalist Teacher - Secondment

(English First Peoples 12, Workplace Math 11, WEX 12A & B, CLE/CLC, and a variety of other Grade 12 Ministry approved courses required for completion of an Adult Dogwood Certification)

Salary Range: $63,347 to $116,190 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)

Effective Date: September 1, 2026, to not later than June 30, 2028

  1. The assignment within this position in September may not be identical to the assignment in this posted position

  2. Due to the specialized nature of this position, the successful applicant, if currently a continuing appointee with Chilliwack School District, may be "seconded" to this position thereby having the assurance to return to his/her former position.

Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
  • demonstrated competence and willingness in teaching adults in a First Nations Community
  • demonstrated understanding of the curricular competencies of the current Ministry of Education Courses that lead to a Dogwood or Adult Dogwood Graduation
  • demonstrated ethics and sensitivity to the nature and needs of Adult Students
  • knowledge of, demonstrated commitment and practice to, the philosophy of teaching adults and providing learning opportunities for these adults outside of the classroom
  • demonstrated ability with a focus on supporting course completion, graduation, and trades programs
  • demonstrated ability to devise a variety of assessment processes that effectively allow students to demonstrate what they know
  • demonstrated use of highly successful instructional strategies in the classroom for adult students such as cooperative learning, guided discovery, and investigation
  • excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills
  • capable of being flexible to meet the changing needs of adult students
  • demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and the supervisor on site
  • demonstrated ability to work as an effective instructional and interdisciplinary team member
  • high energy and excellent interpersonal skills
  • demonstrated ability to maintain records on student performance and student learning plans
