Job Description:

Note: This is for 1 Regular Full-Time temporary vacancy until June 25, 2027. This position is a hybrid work schedule. This position is deemed a critical replacement vacancy.

Why this Role is Important

Under the supervision of the Director, Global Marketing & Digital Experience, and in conjunction with the Marketing and Corporate Communications teams, the Digital Content Strategist is responsible for driving organic traffic to Fanshawe’s digital properties, through the planning and execution of SEO (search engine optimization), digital content and UX strategies for the web. The incumbent will conduct keyword research and write search-optimized content that aligns with the brand, as well as marketing and communications objectives. This position is also responsible for conducting best practice research and developing performance metrics to report on the success of digital content strategies, using a variety of online and digital tools.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Optimize website content

  • Identify growth opportunities in organic website traffic through keyword research, and site-wide optimization efforts and on page optimization factors
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications teams to suggest improvements to website content by following SEO best practices
  • Research and analyze competitor sites
  • Stay up to date on new technologies, UX/SEO trends and best practices
  • Liaise with other College staff to prepare web copy and update web pages. Communicate with large directory listings (such as Google, Wikipedia) to create, update or edit citations
  • Working with the Marketing and Communications teams, identify opportunities for integrated digital content strategies, connecting and leveraging all digital channels for maximum campaign effectiveness

Improve website user experience

  • Based on best practices and performance metrics, research and suggest improvements to the site content and architecture to optimize conversion and improve the user experience
  • Research developments in website design, functionality and usability. In conjunction with the Marketing and Communications teams, develop and execute link building strategies

Measurement and reporting

  • Monitor performance metrics to understand organic search performance using tools such as Google Analytics, Trends and AdWords Keyword Planner to identify SEO opportunities
  • Conduct regular site audits and prepare quarterly monitoring reports

Update web content

  • Liaise with other college staff to prepare and update web pages and content using the content management system
  • Liaise with the third-party web development company on technical developments on the website

What You'll Bring

  • Post-secondary 3 year diploma/degree or equivalent in digital content marketing, website development or related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in UX principles and research practices as well as search engine optimization, including detailed keyword research, manual site audits and using SEO tracking and tools, such as Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Moz, Ahrefs and SEM Rush
  • Experience with a CMS such as Drupal or WordPress and HMTL or CSS an asset
  • Google Suite skills and certifications as well as experience with social media platforms would be an asset
  • Strong skillset in copywriting, SEO, digital marketing and reporting analytics is an asset
