School District No. 10 – Arrow Lakes, in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern BC, is situated on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Sinixt, Sylix, Ktunaxa, and Secwepemc Peoples. We have the following temporary contract teaching opportunity for the 2026-2027 school year:

Position Overview

Assignment**/ Schedule**
The 0.5 FTE Counselling role is to provide preventative, responsive and solution focused mental health services to students, delivering social emotional learning (SEL) classroom instruction, coordinating school-based mental health services, facilitating referrals, and collaborating with community agencies. This position also includes 0.3 FTE ADST and Prep teaching.
RequiredQualifications, Experience and Skills:
- A valid Teaching Certificate from the BC Teacher Regulation Branch
- A Master's degree in counselling psychology, or a Master's degree in a related discipline with a focus on counselling including coursework in: social and emotional development, nature and assessment of behavior, and mental health, individual and group counselling processes, and well-being interventions
- Minimum of 3 years successful classroom teaching experience and successful counselling and/or related experience. Experience teaching applied design, skills and technologies curriculum.
- Ability to use Function-Based Assessments (FBA) and Level B Assessments to assess social and emotional needs and to use results to help assess suitable supports and interventions
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with children, youth and parents, and to inspire and support confidence and self-worth in children and adolescents
- Demonstrated understanding of indigenous cultures and experience integrating First Peoples Principles of Learning into teaching practice
- Successful experience integrating socio-emotional learning and self-regulated learning
- Expertise in specific social, emotional, and behavioural needs, self-regulation and SOGI 123 curricula
- Commitment to co-developing the School Growth Plan and collaboratively organizing for learning
- Professional learning inquiry experience that informs professional practice
- Commitment and expertise in building relationships with parents and community
- Willingness to participate in the school's extra-curricular programs will be an asset
