Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
This Part-Time Academic will be fully responsible for the teaching and grading of one section of THEA**/**PERF 3023.03 Intermediate Dance Skills & Techniques, from September 1 to December 31, 2026 (Fall Term).
This course offers a practical exploration of advanced dance techniques, challenging students to further develop their technical proficiency while continuing to refine their use of space, rhythm, body alignment, flexibility, and strength. Emphasis is placed on the ongoing development of personal expression through the medium of dance, as well as fostering an appreciation of movement as a disciplined artistic practice. The instructor will be expected to teach students who possess a strong foundation of recent technical training (typically 6–10 years) at an elementary examination level within their discipline (ballet, jazz, or modern). The course is designed to prepare students for subsequent intermediate-level dance skills and technique courses.
The instructor will work from the pre-designed Intermediate syllabus and collaborate with dance program instructors to ensure alignment of course content across the dance program and support students who wish to pursue and complete the Certificate in Dance offered by the Fountain School of Performing Arts.
The instructor will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures, marking student assignments, developing course content on Brightspace, and submitting grades. In addition to course time, the instructor is required to hold office hours for student consultations.
The instructor is expected to announce the end-of-term student ratings/evaluations of instruction. This position reports to the Director of the Fountain School of Performing Arts.

- Bachelor of Arts or equivalent degree, including the following qualifications, are required for this position:
- specialization in jazz and contemporary dance techniques and stage dance movement, covering technical basics from techniques such as ballet, jazz (Mattox/Simonsen/Giordano), contemporary (Graham/Limon), and musical theatre styles.
- ability to instruct students with diverse dance-training backgrounds, and broad levels of musicality, dexterity, and coordination.
- teaching experience at the post-secondary level;
- evidence of strong teaching effectiveness.
All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.
Salary Range/Pay Rate
Per CUPE Collective Agreement
