Position Summary:

The Communications Specialist is on the front lines of developing and executing internal and external communication strategies to advance Guelph General Hospitals communication initiatives. As a member of a small team, the Communications Specialist has superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and is extremely organized and detail oriented, capable of simultaneously managing multiple projects and stakeholder expectations.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related program from an accredited University
  • A minimum of five (5) years professional work experience in public relations, media relations and communications
  • Previous experience working in health care or a public sector environment
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proof-reading skills and experience developing a wide variety of communications vehicles and styles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high profile, deadline-oriented environment and the ability to prioritize multiple competing workload demands.
  • Demonstrated highly developed analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues, physicians, and volunteers.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, with demonstrated competency in information and communication technology.
  • High level of initiative and self-direction.
